Rock Advice re: The Lord's Prayer

It's never appropriate to say the Lord's Prayer during a rock song, not even if you're Prince. It's corny and hackneyed. Don't do it.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today..." is not the Lord's Prayer.

(is it?)

I always forget Prince went born again a few years ago. Makes me long for the days when he wrote songs about masturbating and lions in his pockets.

Capn: It's Prince. He dropped the symbol, tho his guitar is shaped like that symbol.

E: I love you too!

AD: It's in the song Controversy. I couldn't find the video because Prince has banned his video from being displayed on youtube. I think he should change his name to "Princess".

Genn: I have nothing against benedictions in rock songs (e.g. For those about to rock, we salute you and Dearly beloved...). Those work for some reason. But "Our Father, who art in Heavan..." not so much.

Me too, Grant Miller, me too.

For personal reasons which I refuse to discuss, I have a profound revulsion to all things Prince (though a few of his songs still make me want to get up and dance).

Guess you don't like that Yaz tune from their album, "Upstairs at Eric's"? (If you're not familiar, it's precisely what you're talking about.

A Minnesotan friend of mine saw tiny P in concert a couple of years ago, and he had taken out all the sex references in his lyrics, and replaced them all with references to god.

And if that doesn't neatly summarize exactly what's wrong with Christianity in America, I don't know what does.
